Thomas Mellon, founder of Mellon Bank and patriarch of the Mellon family, was a noted nineteenth century lawyer, judge, banker, and entrepreneur. As a young child, Mellon emigrated from Ireland with his parents, settling on a farm in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
